Spangler Farm | Gettysburg, PA | 30 June – 2 July 2023
CWHI returned to the Gettysburg Foundation’s Spangler Farm for another weekend of living history to commemorate the 160th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg on 1-3 July 1863. This year’s programming expanded its focus on the aftermath of the pivotal three-day battle with emphasis on what occurred at the Spangler Farm through 5 July 1863: US field hospital operations, the encampment and drill of the US troops held in reserve there, and sequestration of wounded CS prisoners of war in the wagon bay of the barn.
The Gettysburg Foundation hosted regular tours of the site throughout the day, escorting hundreds of visitors from home and abroad, to learn more about the site and its significance in the Gettysburg Campaign. We thoroughly enjoyed engaging with the myriad of families, school groups, and scout troops who came to visit and learn more about American history. Many thanks to the Gettysburg Foundation for having CWHI return to this exceptional site and to our friends in the 3rd USV for coming out to interpret with us! We look forward to future opportunities to preserve and interpret the past together.
